A Day in the Life: Deep Ellum, DTX
Start your day walking to one of Dallas’s best coffee shops, Merit Coffee Co., or Mokah Coffee & Tea most notably; but if you want a local suggestion, give Fiction Coffee a try. Log on to the free Wifi and stay a while if you want to get out of the house to “work from home.”
Along your walk, you’ve gotten a look at some dope murals by local artists. This is part of the Deep Ellum edge that we love. If you like a true concrete jungle without the prim and proper of Uptown, this may be your spot.
If you’re trying to get some work done but also want to see other humans, network, and maybe make a friend or two, Deep Ellum has great coworking spaces. Common Desk offers specialty coffee and the laid back vibe Deep Ellum is known for. GeniusDen is a great runner up.
On the weekend, invite your crew to Deep Ellum for brunch. Check out Ebb & Flow for delicious, insta-worthy dishes. The Biscuit Bar, Stirr, and Punch Bowl Social also top our list.
In Deep Ellum it’s convenient to keep the party rolling for Sunday Funday. Grab an ice cream at Jeni’s as you walk over to the Bottled Blonde rooftop or the indoor/outdoor bar at Backyard for a lively scene. For something more low-key, try Braindead Brewery, Deep Ellum Brewing, or Dot’s.
Dinner choices are plentiful in Deep Ellum. We’ll skip the story lines and get down to business.
● TexMex: Vidorra (most poppin), Pepe & Mito’s (more hole in wall, just as notable)
● Italian: Cane Rosso (get the Honey Bastard, you won’t regret it), Postino
● BBQ: Pecan Lodge (best brisket in TX if you ask us), Terry Black’s
● Asian: Oni Ramen, Deep Sushi, Monkey King Noodle Co.
● American: Twisted Root Burger, Uncle Uber’s
Any day of the week you can find live music in Deep Ellum. Trees is one of our favorite music venues in Dallas, it attracts some well-known artists in a more intimate setting. For a larger venue and some bigger names, grab tickets to a show at Bomb Factory (pro tip: to avoid the crowds, get a seat in the balcony!) If you’re looking to check out the local music scene or see an up-and-coming band, check out Club DaDa, Three Links, and Twilight. For a Texas two-stepping experience, head over to Adair’s Saloon for live country music.
Not ready for the night to end? The bar at Harlowe MXM or the rooftop at STIRR are great choices. Double Wide offers a true Deep Ellum experience (in a double wide trailer no less!) Or you can venture out to a speakeasy like Deep Ellum Candy Co. or High & Tight Barbershop.
